Why discussing gender and STEM is so dangerous?

Abstract

I describe my experience, as an example of the troubles that happen when discussing scientific results on gender and Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) beyond the boundaries imposed by political correctness.  Moving to the wider context, I interpret these troubles as symptoms of a serious illness of current academia and society.
